About
Hmm, I *could* easily spin a massive rant here and go on about how great and addictive uniNews is, and how the concept behind it is superior to all the traditional news and media outlets. But… I’ll keep it short and let you decide for yourself.
“uniNews” is a social news/bookmarking website for students.
Simple as that really.
Students can register on the website and submit links to interesting articles, news, videos, pictures… whatever they find out on the Net which they think is interesting and worth sharing with others. Once they’ve gone through the easy submission process (i.e. copy/paste link, title and description, then select category) the story is then added into the “Upcoming Stories” section. This is kind of like a large queue of stories sitting in the background waiting to be noticed.
Other students/users can then browse these “stories” and checkout the links. If they like it, they simply click the “vote box” to indicate they like it. The number of votes increases by 1.
If enough students also like the story and vote for it… the story moves to the front page (“Popular Stories”) where it is more easily viewable and other people can continue to vote for it.
Another way to think of it is like a newspaper. Rather than an editor deciding which news stories will be printed or put on the front page… it is the uniNews community who decide which stories they like the best and thus which stories move to the front page.
And of course being a website there are numerous other goodies to enjoy. For example, each time you vote for a story, it is added to your profile. Then what you can do is add friends to your friend list and you will then be able to see the different stories your friends have voted for (and vice versa).
If that’s still confusing, I suggest you checkout the Tutorial which will guide you through the process. Or simply have a play around. Register, submit some links, vote for some stories and explore the website.
Have fun!
btw, it might be an idea to bookmark this blog or subscribe to the RSS. As I will be posting updates here should the uniNews website go down due to traffic overload etc.
